Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or your choice)
  • 2 slices of cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese)
  • 1-2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface. Layer the cheese slices on top.
  3. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up, to form a sandwich.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, place the sandwich in the skillet.
  5. Cook for 3-5 minutes on the first side, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  6. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-5 minutes on the second side, until golden and the cheese is fully melted.
  7. Remove from the skillet, let cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve warm. Enjoy your gooey grilled cheese!
